Chapter 6 – Basic Indian Recipes

Introduction

In this chapter, you will learn some simple and essential Indian recipes that form the base of daily meals. These recipes are beginner-friendly and help you practice cooking techniques learned in previous chapters.

1️⃣ Plain Rice

Ingredients: Rice, Water, Salt (optional)

Method:

  • Wash rice properly.
  • Add 1 cup rice and 2 cups water in a pan or cooker.
  • Cook until rice becomes soft.
  • Serve hot.

2️⃣ Basic Dal (Lentils)

Ingredients: Toor Dal, Turmeric, Salt, Water, Oil, Cumin

Method:

  • Wash dal and pressure cook with turmeric and water.
  • Heat oil, add cumin for tempering.
  • Mix cooked dal and add salt.
  • Simmer for 5 minutes and serve.

3️⃣ Chapati (Roti)

Ingredients: Wheat flour, Water

Method:

  • Knead soft dough.
  • Roll into round shape.
  • Cook on hot tawa until both sides are done.

4️⃣ Simple Vegetable Sabzi

Ingredients: Seasonal vegetables, Oil, Salt, Turmeric, Cumin

Method:

  • Heat oil and add cumin.
  • Add chopped vegetables.
  • Add salt and turmeric.
  • Cook until vegetables are soft.

5️⃣ Tea Preparation

Ingredients: Water, Milk, Tea leaves, Sugar

Method:

  • Boil water and add tea leaves.
  • Add milk and sugar.
  • Boil for 2-3 minutes and strain.
