 UPSC – CAPF (ACs) Exam . Eligibility, Exam pattern and Syllabus


The UPSC CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) Assistant Commandants Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit Assistant Commandants in various paramilitary forces like the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Nationality: Candidate must be a citizen of India.
  2. Age Limit: Candidates must be aged between 20 and 25 years as of 1st August of the year of examination. There are age relaxations for certain categories as per government norms.
  3. Educational Qualification:
    • A candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree from any recognized university or institution.
    • Final year students can also apply, provided they submit proof of passing the examination along with the Detailed Application Form which will be required to be submitted after qualifying the written test.

Exam Pattern:

The examination consists of three stages:

  1. Written Examination:

    • Paper-I: General Ability and Intelligence – 250 marks
    • Paper-II: General Studies, Essay, and Comprehension – 200 marks
    • Both papers are objective type with multiple choice questions.
    • Negative marking is applicable for incorrect answers.
  2. Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Test (PST/PET):

    • Candidates who qualify in the written examination are called for the Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Test.
    • Physical standards include height, weight, and chest measurements.
    • The Physical Efficiency Test involves physical activities like a race, long jump, shot put, etc.
  3. Interview/Personality Test:

    • Candidates who qualify the written examination and physical tests are called for an interview/personality test.
    • The interview is conducted to assess the candidate's overall personality, presence of mind, and suitability for the job.

Syllabus:

Paper-I: General Ability and Intelligence:

  1. General Mental Ability
  2. General Science
  3. Current Events of National and International Importance
  4. Indian Polity and Economy
  5. History of India
  6. Indian and World Geography

Paper-II: General Studies, Essay, and Comprehension:

  1. Part-A: Essay questions which are to be answered in long narrative form either in Hindi or English totaling 80 Marks.
  2. Part-B: Comprehension, Precis writing, other communications/language skills – to be attempted in English only (Marks 120)
  3. General Studies covering the following:
    • The Constitution of India
    • Indian History and Culture
    • Geography
    • Current Events of National and International Importance
    • Indian Polity and Economy
    • General Science
